Sibylline Sessions

The Story

Sibylline Sessions began as a way to bring the ancient traditions of oracular consultation into modern devotional spaces. Inspired by the sibyls and oracles of old, Sibylline Sessions create a space where participants can approach the divine directly. Hosted by Ellie (@elthealchemist), each session combines ritual, education, and live oracular work, creating a shared space where members of the Sanctuary can seek guidance in the presence of divinity.

These sessions draw inspiration from ancient traditions, but they are not intended to recreate any single historical oracle. The flow of the evening is different each time, as each divinity invoked was brought forward in a different way in the ancient world. Instead, they are a modern devotional practice informed by Hellenic religion, divination, and modern-day trance and channeling work.

The Sibyl

El is a skilled diviner with over a decade of experience. They use tarot cards, bones, channeling, and trance-possession as their favored methods, and offer their skills to their communities so they may find the same comfort and support that they do.

As the Sibyl, Ellie serves as an intermediary during these gatherings, facilitating communication through channeling and divination. Every session is approached with reverence and humility, as spiritual experiences like these are deeply personal and need to be handled with the utmost care.

Monthly Sibylline Sessions

Sibylline Sessions are held live on the Full Moon of each month in the Sanctuary of the Crossroads Discord server.

There is a ritual invocation followed by a section when attendees can ask questions, share what’s on their heart, or simply sit in the presence of divinity.

There is an education lesson that takes place before each Sibylline Session. The lesson is designed so that everyone can understand the divinity being invoked before entering the Sibylline Session. Each lesson contains the history of the deity/divinity, cult worship (if applicable), and modern devotional styles. Those who wish to attend the Sibylline Session are encouraged to attend the lesson. Each lesson is posted in the Learning channel in the server for members who are unable to attend the live lesson.

What to Expect

Sibylline Sessions are communal devotional experiences, rather than individual private readings. Some attendees come seeking guidance, while others simply wish to sit in the presence of the divinity being invoked for the evening. Speaking with the oracle is optional. You are welcome to attend, observe respectfully, and participate in the portions of the events that feel comfortable for you.

How to Ask Questions

1. If you would like an oracle, join the queue by posting your question in the chat or sending a message saying that you’d like to speak your question aloud on the stage when it’s your turn. Remember to click the Request to Speak button before your turn.
2. When it is your turn, the session moderator will ping you. Please respond in text or voice to let us know you’re present.
3. Do not ask questions on topics such as health, legal/financial advice, relationships with third parties, or death predictions.
4. Ask questions with sincerity (no purposeful fishing for overly specific information, no testing the oracle’s abilities)

If there is a god, goddess, or divinity that you would like to see invoked during a Sibylline Session, please open a ticket in the Sanctuary of the Crossroads and ping @elthealchemist! While we cannot guarantee every request will become a future session, community interest helps shape our calendar and educational programming!
